This design/illustration was produced for the Matthew25 Network, who were preparing a small online shop as a fundraiser. They had a phrase that they wanted to use and a general style they liked, but no concrete visuals. I took the phrase ("Choosing Hope Over Fear For 2000 Years") and looked over the samples that they provided as fodder for inspiration. I thought that a distressed background that formed a subtle dove would fit the theme well, incorporating -- beyond the dove and more obvious "hope" imagery -- aspects of our broken condition with viney "growth" imagery in the midst of it.
